Glauconite is also often present in the sankir layers of ancient Russian icons. As a rule, trees, architecture and earthly images are painted with glauconite. The glauconite pigment is one of the most durable; it does not alter over time, is not subject to external influences and can be used in any mixture. When applied in a thin layer, glauconite is transparent and is used for glazes. To achieve coverage, it is placed in several layers.
