According to the historical recipe. A natural madder pigment, obtained from the root of the madder plant, or madder (Rubia tinctorum).
It is one of the oldest pigments known and was already used more than 3000 years ago. It is traditionally made from the root of the madder plant Rubia tinctoria. For this purpose, the madder roots are dried and ground. Subsequently the dyes are precipitated with the salts. Reds vary in shades of orange, purple, brown, pink and dark red, depending on the coloring components attached. Unlike most other vegetable dyes, madder red was highly prized not only by dyers but also by painters. Compared to other natural reds, the light fastness of madder red is relatively good, as the alizarin it contains is quite stable.
