The book is the first volume of the catalog of collections of Old Russian painting of the Vologda Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve and the Vologda Regional Art Gallery. The publication presents in detail the monuments of icon painting of the XIV-XVI centuries, provided with detailed catalog descriptions. The main part is preceded by two illustrated articles devoted to the collection of ancient Russian painting of the Vologda Museum-Reserve and the historical and cultural environment in which the monuments offered to the reader's attention arose and existed. Many icons are published for the first time, so the book is addressed primarily to specialists and everyone interested in the artistic culture of the Russian Middle Ages.
