Gold leaf applicator (mesh type), PG with oil cream

The applicator is an innovative gilding tool from the PG brand. Its design allows for the quick and easy pickup of both whole sheets and small fragments of gold or imitation leaf. Its ease of use makes it ideal for both beginners and experienced artisans seeking an impeccable gilded finish. It is suitable for all types of gilding.

The applicator comes in a cardboard box for convenient storage and includes a special oil to help pick up the leaf.

Before use, the mesh section of the applicator must be lightly coated with this oil. To do this, take a small amount of oil—about the size of a match head—and place it on the back of your hand. Then, using a light touch, tap the applicator onto the oil to coat the surface evenly. Alternatively, you can apply the oil to a sponge and then transfer it to the applicator's mesh.

Once prepared, try picking up a sheet from the gilder's cushion. If the sheet does not lift, repeat the process adding a little more oil. Important: the applicator requires only a minimal amount of oil. You can pick up the leaf from a booklet or a gilder's pad with a light touch, letting the weight of the applicator itself do the work. To transfer the leaf to the prepared surface, gently lower it onto the object and allow the gold to adhere by lightly adjusting the pressure. Next, very gently press the mesh from the inside using a cotton pad, or blow lightly on it. At this point, the applicator can be removed.

While working, avoid letting the mesh come into contact with other surfaces to prevent contamination.

When finished, clean the applicator's mesh with a cotton pad or a soft cloth and store it in its box. This will help maintain its shape and extend the tool's lifespan.
