In questo volume si presenta un’opera oggi concordemente attribuita al pittore senese Simone Martini, in occasione del suo recente restauro ad opera dell’Opificio delle Pietre dure e Laboratori di restauro di Firenze. Il percorso di restauro, iniziato nel 2011 e concluso con la riconsegna nel maggio 2019, recupera lo splendore dell’opera dopo il precedente restauro degli anni Trenta del XX secolo. I diversi contributi presenti nel volume si dividono in “studi storico-artistici”, nei quali si disaminano molteplici aspetti quali l’attribuzione dell’opera, le ragioni del restauro e la sua locazione, vale a dire la Chiesa di Santa Maria al Prato in San Casciano Val di Pesa, e “studi tecnici”, dove si analizzano la tecnica esecutiva, lo stato di conservazione e il supporto ligneo con moderni strumenti diagnostici, e i relativi aspetti del restauro. A corredare il tutto vi sono una sezione di tavole e un approfondimento tecnico sulle indagini.

I ordered several wooden boards to paint icons. Upon delivery, half of them showed scratches on the surface to be painted or saw marks on the side. The wooden boards are made without the care necessary for the production of works of art. Dal Molin has not had any hearing for my request for replacement of the unusable art supply nor for a refund saying that "these details have no importance". I do not recommend this business.

This company is worth a visit for its wonderful and wide selection of basic materials, from shaped wooden boards and gesso, to tools and paints: everything you need to create icons or pyrography. They stock wonderful painted icons, books, and even offer courses on the subject. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with information and suggestions. Worth a visit.
