Il volume raccoglie gli studi storici, critici e iconologici per la mostra nata intorno all'epocale restauro della Croce dipinta realizzata da Iohannes (Giovanni), capostipite della Scuola Riminese del Trecento, per la Chiesa di San Francesco a Mercatello sul Metauro. Il volume a cura di Daniele Benati e Alessandro Giovanardi è arricchito dagli interventi di Tommaso Castaldi e Fabio Massacesi e dalle fotografie inedite di Gilberto Urbinati.
