The icon crosses are made of seasoned lime wood and further dried in the oven. The boards are selected by width measurement, to obtain as many whole boards as possible. For large sizes, the boards are joined with finger joints with a hydraulic press (thus guaranteeing long life over time) by arranging the boards with the core facing the same direction (as in traditional canons). The cross is planed and shimmed, sanded on two sides and gleaned, painted on the back and sides with anti-woodworm and anti-mold impregnating agent and walnut-coloured water-based varnish. Canvas glued to the board with rabbit glue, prepared with plaster and rabbit glue (80% Bologna, 20% Meudon) in multiple layers (about 10), sanded, ready to be painted.
Board thickness approximately 3 cm.
The wedges are made of beech wood and have a dovetail shape.
