Color: light brown. Goethite (German: Goethit), is named after the German poet and naturalist J. W. Goethe, who described it. Goethite is a sort of (basic) chromoform for those natural pigments we call ocher, sienna and umber.
Natural Pigment: Goethite is a type of iron oxide mineral that produces ocher pigments in yellow-orange and brown tones. In the light it produces pleasant tones and is prized by artists for its purity of color.
