The icon crosses are made of seasoned lime wood and further dried in the oven. The boards are selected by width, to obtain as many whole boards as possible. For the wide sizes, the boards are joined with a comb joint with a hydraulic press (thus ensuring long-lasting durability) by arranging the boards with the pith on the same side (as in traditional canons). The cross is planed and thickened, sanded on two sides and edged, painted on the back and sides with an anti-woodworm and anti-mold impregnator and walnut-colored water-based paint. Canvas glued to the board with rabbit glue, prepared with chalk and rabbit glue (80% Bologna, 20% Meudon) in several layers (about 10), sanded, ready to be painted.
Board thickness about 3 cm.
