Ivory black is a natural organic animal pigment. It is obtained from the calcination of ivory fragments in the absence of air. This pigment has been known since ancient times and used by the Greeks in the classical age.
It has excellent stability to light and humidity. It has a fine, opaque and transparent appearance. Requires a medium amount of thinner to form a smooth, fluid paste. It dries quickly and has a medium-high covering power.
Formula: [Ca3(PO4)2] + CaCO3 + C.
Recommendation for use: It can be used for different decorative techniques, such as oil, tempera, encaustic and fresco.
