Cadmium yellow gold is a natural or synthetic inorganic mineral pigment that derives from the mineral “greenockite” from Scotland, Bohemia and Pennsylvania.
The synthetic, slightly toxic version is produced by precipitating an acidic solution of a cadmium salt with hydrogen sulfide. It has good stability to light, temperature and humidity. It dries rather slowly.
If diluted it forms a fluid paste and requires a lot of thinner. It has a brilliant shade and high coloring power.
Recommendation for use: It can be used for different decorative techniques, such as oil, tempera, encaustic.
Formula: CdS + ZnO – Cadmium sulfide, zinc oxide.
