Straw colored powder derived from milk, slightly soluble in water. It is instead soluble in salts with basic reaction or in alkalis, with which they are obtained: ammonium caseinate, used as a binder for wall paintings (or on other supports) and for the consolidation of the paint film. Calcium caseinate, a very tough glue with a strong adhesive power that is irreversible after a short time and water resistant.
When ammonia or soda is used, a water-sensitive substance is obtained that can be used to make the pigment casein with a mechanic casein.
